Default Gears for the yukon denali

Trying to figure out what size the awd front end is on the yukon denali so I know what gears to order for it, also just to check I have a 8.6 rear end correct? Is it a ten bolt? Im going with 4:88 and a better locker in the rear.

Your 2004 Yukon Denali would have an 8.25” IFS and you’re correct in that the rear is a 8.625” 10-bolt as well.

The design from GMT 800 and GMT 900 is different.

But they still a 8.25 IFS on a half ton.

I used this exact same kit for the exact same reasons. It worked out great.

The cause of my whine/howl.

Oh wow. Now if I knew how to do that myself. That's exactly what I need to do. Did you do that yourself ?

I am a beginner and did it all. If I can do it, you can

There are some very good posts out there detailing the rebuild.

Bearing whine is obnoxious!!! As far as special tools, a bearing separator and push/pull set make changing the bearing a breeze, although three jaw pullers can work just as well, bearing installers/drivers (long tubes that are hardened with a cap on them to allow you to hit it with a hammer on top of a piece of wood or a shop press), in/lb torque wrench (personally prefer beam type, others digital) and your best friend is a dial indicator with a magnetic base for rear and vice grip style for the front(either will work but magnetic base is much easier to set up IMO). I know snap-on and matco both have tool sets specifically for changing gears in differentials..I did my front gears in about 2.5 hours including dropping and reinstalling the front differential and replacing pinion and carrier bearings....only done it once or twice
