What is the optimum gear for a 97 l31 tahoe? Truck has a cold air intake and the stock 342 gears with a 255/70/15 tire.I know the l31 does not rev as high as the newer ls motors. I do not want to over gear it but want some more acceleration. Thanks in advance.

 

For that size tire, a 3.73 would be a good gear for you. I don't know how much of a difference it would make from the 3.42, but there would be some. Also, your tranny will love you a little more.
