I have a g80 out of a impala ss that i was gonna try and use in my truck. I dont want to use the 3.08 though and got to looking for a 3.42 or 3.73. I looked in jegs and the gears they offer specifically say will not work on the impala ss 1994-1996. I am hoping that the gear will work and it just says it wont work becuase of the abs. What do you guys think

EDIT: Sorry guys the above doesnt make any sense to me. Anyhow, What i need to know is will the posi unit work in my truck or do i need to buy a different one? My truck has the 8.5" just the same as the late model impala ss.

 

It's probably a different carrier than the gears you mentioned.

 

From my understanding the rear end in the impala is a 8.5" setup, and it is just like or is an auburn from the factory. I had it sitting around and would like to use it. I know that they are pretty stout being they propel a 4000+ pound car.

 

You should have no problems. The Impala had a 3 channel ABS with the ring on the pinion and some gears wont accept it, but the carriers are still the same. It probably is an Auburn, they were available from the factory.

 

I dont really care about the abs, becuase my 81 truck doesnt have it. I also have a question about axle spline. My 81 has 28 spline axles and I beleive the new carrier has 30 spline axles. I am having more trouble with thins thing than putting the 5.3 in
