the 2wd StrongArms from AirRide. They don't know if it will mount in the same locations or not... and I'd have to fab the upper spring mount. Alternately they have a an HD variant, but it requires torsion bars which just confuses the hell outa me...

What bag kit are you looking at?? Or is there even a "kit" available ??
Without the cv in the hub, that will cause major problems. His best bet would be to swap to the 2wd hubs, or fab some type of dummy shaft. No cv shaft + 4wd drive hubs = lose a tire

what about differences in the 2001+ 2500 HD trucks vs. the '99-00 non-HD 2500 trucks?

my '99 2500 has a 3" narrower front track width than my dads 2500HD. mine is 2wd and his is 4wd, but i was wondering if i could swap the 4wd arms/torsion bars onto my 99 to make it the same width as an HD?

The shafts add nothing structural to the hub.....you'll be ok removing them Berserker.....

nor do they help to retain the wheels....otherwise, you would have to remove shafts to remove the wheels!!

I spoke with several guys who do suspension for a living (one of which left 4wd hubs on and the wheels fell off on his boss' truck) and a GM rep. All said change hubs, so I did.

Ended up not doing the air ride stuff. Too much money, but I dropped the front 2-5 inches hehe

Good deal man...I was getting nervous as I started reading down this thread and the idea of leaving the 4x4 hubs in. Best case scenario would have been wiping out the wheel bearings before the front tires had a chance to launch...at least you would have heard a growling noise and pulled over. More than likely though, you would have lost the wheels before that happened...that could have gotten ugly. Glad you went with the 2wd hubs.
