Front control arm differences between 2WD and AWD?

Default Front control arm differences between 2WD and AWD?

Anyone know if control arms designed for a 2wd will work for an AWD truck? I know if the mount points are the same or not? I know the torsion bar vs coil springs.

not likely, doesn't the front end of the torsion bar run thru the control arm

In terms of fitment ANY of the 2wd/4wd/awd/HD/Non-HD control arms will bolt in to the mounting brackets (lower bracket width is the same on ALL of the trucks I've measured), as for making it work....you've defintely got your work cut out for you Erik

What I was considering is ditching the torsion bars all together and converting it to a 2wd front to save weight.

You could look under a 2006 SS, they are 2 wheel drive, parts should bolt right in.

yeah the 2wd SS's and the 2004-2006 2wd VHO B4V "performance package" trucks both use torsion bars and are 2wd.

you would be better off leaving the awd suspension and changing the spindles to 2wd.
remove the axles and t/case.

They're the same spindle design.....the hub bolts from behind on all of the truck spindles, the only difference is that the 4wd hubs have a hole in them for the drive-arm. You certanly could remove the axles, and t-case though to convert to 2wd

Yep, already 1/2 way down that road I'm thinking I need to change hubs for the solid ones... What do you think?

The plan with this thread was to remove the torsion bars and do a bag front.

I'd leave the 4wd hubs alone.....they'll work in 2wd mode without an issue (the drive-arm isn't structural) and it'll save you some cash on this project.

What bag kit are you looking at?? Or is there even a "kit" available ??
