Default drum brakes

Anyone have the "new" Gm drum brakes on their trucks. I made the mistake of not getting mine replaced with discs and now after 2,000 miles the bastards will not stop squeeling....any ideas?

I have yet to read anyone putting disc brakes on an 06. As for your problem it is a common occurance for the 05-06 with drum brakes.

Baer has a kit availible for the rear of the 05-06's. Park brake and all!

What or how did you convert them over????
Did you use a quality pad? Cheap pads will squeel. Also, did you turn your rotors prior to placing new pads on them. This will cause a squeel as well.
Are you sure your parking brake assembly is not adjusted to tight?
Was the proportioning valve suposed to be changed out?

I think he said he didn't convert them to disc.

Ive got almost 5,000 on my drums and they don't sqeek at all. They do have a slight pulsating feeling to them.

Mine has pulsation as well. I think it is a very poor quality design and poor choice of rear brakes GM put on the 1500 trucks. They took the cheap way out. We ended up with the *** end of the deal.
Mine don't squeek either though. But when you get them hot or do any kind of abrupt braking, they pulsate a lot and make a roaring noise that is very noticeable.
I could have swore he was talking about disc pads.

Take it back to the dealer for warranty repairs.
GM does not offer a rear disc brake option for the 05-current 1500 series trucks.
I bet you the drum shoes are adjusted out a little too much.
Brakes are covered under warranty until about 12000-15000 miles. I should know by now.
My dealership has currently done 9 different warranty repairs to my brakes.
I'm one customer that will make GM wish they never placed drum brakes on the rear of these trucks. At least not the poor design they used.
A GM rep had to ask the dealership personally why they have done so many warranty brake repairs that has cost GM over $3,000 in parts and labor.
A lot of people will tollerate imperfections in vehicle workmanship quality. I however will not tollerate it at all! By now, almost every Vehicle manufacturer should have improved their braking systems over earlier modeled vehicle braking system. GM has taken a few steps back with their brakes they chose for their top selling trucks.
GM needs to get it together....and very soon.

My old truck was a 04 silverado with rear disk brakes and they did not feel very strong, now my current 05 GMC with rear drums feel 100 times better and alot stronger. My truck now has a knock or a klunk type of noise that is coming from the rear end and I don't know if is from the brakes or driveline slack but it only happens on acceleration from a dead stop. I will have to dig into it soon to see what it is...

I knew Baer had a disc brake kit but I have not heard of anyone use them.

I want to convert my 06' to disc brakes. I watched my brother break a axle in his firebird(drum brakes) while going down the track. Put his car in the wall... OUTCH!!! I doubt I'll ever break a axle in the truck but I like the peace of mind factor of having the disc brakes to hold that axle in if it should ever break.
