Anyone make a drop in locker for a 2003 Silverado with a 10 bolt and open carrier?

 

Eaton True-Trac is very popular.

 

Half dozen 3/16” 7018 rods dropped in at 90amp.

Seen that done before. I would not do that.

 

Me neither but it’s the cheapest option. I’d go truetrac or 14b axle then truetrac.

 

I run a Detroit in my 14b. Actually drives really well. But no snow where I live.

 

I have a Detroit true trac in mine and its held up well and drives nice. But I live at the beach so no slippery stuff here much...

 

Around 2011 I put a cheap PowerTrax Locker in a half ton 10 bolt, did NOT like it's behaviour at all, too much backlash, it was clunky and a bit annoying on the road. Click and Clunk every single time I lifted off the throttle.
Took it out after six months.
Put in a Yukon Dura-Grip clutch type posi traction, smooth, silent, BOTH WHEEL Drive.
I know the Dura Grip will not last forever, but it's manners are good, it is quiet, and gets excellent traction on snow and ice.

. I just put another Dura Grip in a half ton Suburban 10 bolt a couple weeks ago, went in easy, fitted in smooth and TIGHT with the FACTORY ORIGINAL shims, 12 thousandths backlash, close enough for a housing with 176,000 miles on it.
Smooth operation, pavement, and BOTH wheel drive on wet grass, and mud.
It ain't a locker, but it's easier to live with in a daily driver.
