So, all things being equal - what's your opinion?

The one peice aluminum will be lighter.
The 2-piece steel will be stronger.

^^ Agreed - but what kind of savings would there be from the rotating mass perspective? Enough at the wheels to worry with? I have yet to find anyone who will make a one-piece aluminum for an ECSB....only C/F D/S. So I'm really interested. An article I read about a Mustang stated it was worth 10HP....now thats on a 1-piece D/S to 1-piece C/F conversion. Wonder what something much longer would mean/be worth?

I don't think the money spent would be worth the little hp gains. Unless money is not an issue.
The 2wd SS trucks have a 1-piece aluminum driveshaft.
I've even heard that some of the ECSB V-Max trucks have 1-piece driveshafts.

You might want to look more into this.

My '05 AWD Silverado SS has a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft. It is an extended cab short bed for those that don't know.

The Duramax also uses a one piece aluminum driveshaft. I know my Dad's truck which is an extended cab long bed has one. It's HUGE and has some sort of balancer hub up at the front yoke.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll admit, I was a doubter, but I got to thinking about the SS now that its not just AWD and another guy told me too! I wonder why Denny's Driveshaft and others won't build an aluminum one for me?

Great setup by the way - what kind of power do you put to the wheels?

They won't build one that long because at that length the critical speed is semi low (~6200RPM). Depending on gearing and such, it's not hard to get close to that number. A number of us one piece guys have had the 1 piece come apart on us above the factory speed limiter, just be careful. I was told via CHP that only reg cab short beds have one piece driveshafts in the most recent designs.

I know the carier bearing has helped me out. A couple RC T56 guys have shreded their 1 piece DS, where as mine is still going strong. *Knock on wood* It made rob power, but it also absorbs shock which is good in my case.

I'd just stick with the trusty 2-piece for durability.
