whats the best way to remove the drive shaft? i have a 99 with the two piece driveshaft. do you have to take it out at the rear end, or can you just unbolt the middle support and the two pieces slide apart?

also tried to drain the trans and the bolt head stripped, i didnt think i pulled it that hard. but now ive got one gnarly *** drain plug that needs to go. i could just let the pan down, but i've got a score to settle with that plug.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

 

Don't sweat the drain plug bolt. It happens to everybody. You will never get it off. Just plan on dropping the pan everytime you want to drain the fluid. You could install an aftermarket drain plug kit, or just get a new pan.

The driveshaft will slide out if you un-bolt the hanger bearing, and the u-joint staps in the rear. No need to take out the rear end or anything else, since there's plenty of play in both of the yokes.

 

4 bolts at drive shaft and undo middle hanger deal... id try some large vice grips on that bolt... maybe a 6 point socket... if thats not what you used to strip it.... itll come off. you have to want to...

 

thank for the DS info. as for the pan i might just drill a hole in it flt comes monday. i just dont want transmission fluid all over the garage floor.
