DOD delete, Cam Swap, Circle D 3200 Stall in a 09 Sierra 5.3
#1
Hey Guys,
I just read a bunch of posts tonight about stall converters... wanted to make sure I did a little research before posting; had a couple questions that I thought people might like to comment on. I would love to hear opinions.
Right now, my truck is stock except a Cat-Back exhaust system. However, after talking with TooTall last week I have decided to do a DOD delete and a Cam Swap.
Now, this will take place after I return from deployment, but it gives me some time to put the parts together to knock this out in one shot after my return.
I have not decided what cam I will be using yet, but it will be big and lopey and accompanied by a set of Harland Sharp RR's, Comp Push Rods, a Fast XRT Manifold, DynaTech long tubes, and a full exhaust system w/o cats.
Of course, I will need a good tune afterward, but I'm sure this is a pretty good start.
My questions about the stall converter are simply these...
1. After installing the above mentioned parts, will a 3200 stall converter still have a relatively stock feel to it? (in regards to daily driving)
2. Will I still be able to tow a trailer, or will it effect my towing capacity? (I don't haul much... couple of dirt bikes; and a car every once in a while.)
3. Are their additional components that I should install when using a stall converter (tranny cooler... etc.)?
4. I have heard nothing but good things about Circle D, and plan to use this particular brand. What size should I use? Single or multi-plate?
Please feel free to include any and all opinions... they are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks

Circle D is a great company from what everyone says and if you call Chris at Circle D he will be able to answer any question you have about converters. When you install your converter you will need to install a tranny cooler due to the extra heat created by the higher stall converter. If you havent installed the vette servo I would add that as well but there seems to be mixed opinions on the 4th gear servo weither its needed or not. Check out Texas Speed and Performance or Thunder Racing for their cam packages. The 220 and 224 are very popular cams and proven performers. Where are you deployed to? I'm currently sitting in southern Afghanistan waiting till my deployment ends so I can install my parts pile that has taken over the dinning room. Good luck and stay safe.

Thanks for the reply, I'll definitely make the call. And as far as the deployment is concerned, I'm the IDC for a team at 3D MSOB (MARSOC)... and, thats all I can really say. I'm sure you'll understand. Thanks again brother. Stay safe.

From what I've read, the 3200 is about the highest you'll want to go if you still want to be able to tow, and if you're towing a lot, may still be too much. I would definatly send Chris a message or give him a call, nothing wrong with asking someone that knows for sure!

No worries. I'll be takin pics and video. I'm gonna try and video the whole DOD delete/cam swap from start to finish. I know how much it helps to have visual aids when you're doing something like this, so if I can help someone else, I'm all about it.
And thank you for the kind words concerning the deployment, I appreciate it.
