Default Differential interchange.

My front diff in my 05 1500HD is piling up.... and really it gives me good reason to ditch these useless 3.73's the truck has. Now for simplicities sake I just want to swap an entire front differential into it and then re-gear the rear.

Because a buddy has a low mileage one does anyone know if the 9.25" IFS changed, either mounting points or otherwise from the GMT400 to the GMT800 chassis? A buddy has a low mile 4.10 9.25" front from a 98 3/4 ton. If it will fit, great. If not I just buy a low mile junkyard unit from a GMT800.

Downtime is key on this rig and swapping diffs is less likely of a problem and a whole lot faster than re-gearing. Plus no waiting for parts and whatnot. I can drive it with mismatched ratios until I get the parts for the back and then do a re-gear. The front is critical as I don't want this truck leaving me somewhere. At the worst I use my 04 for work..... which I don't want to do.

Thanks!

I know visually, they look different but not sure if they would interchange.

Unfortunately I think you would have to put them side by side to see if they will work.

If you decide to rebuild or have it rebuilt I have some nice used front 4.10's

Yeah I am seeing that already. My google searching netted me findng someone saying the mounts changed to accomodate the new chassis.. and specifically the Duramax. Oh well, was a nice thought. Getting this truck ready for this next work shift probably isn't happening so I will be swapping all my tools and whatnot into my 04..... or at least the stuff I need.

I will be ordering a Detroit locker and new gears for the rear probably tomorrow and start the physical search for the front..... Found a couple wreckers with low mileage 9.25" complete diffs for about $500 so I will be checking them out. I would do a swap for the rear too but I want a Detroit Locker and no more Gov Lock garbage so rebuild for that it is.
