The z-pak has single-sided clutches. That menas that every single piece is exposed steel on one side, clutch material on the other. The theory is that this configuration allows the clutch pack to handle more torque becuase it can more evenly absorb and dissipate the heat generated. A conventional clutch pack has plates splined to the hub that have clutch material on both sides, and steel plates splined to the drum.

I'm on board with da wrench. The best frictions in the world won't last if you can't get rid of heat. The thicker steels, as found it conventional clutch setups, do an excellent job of dissapating heat. I use 8 Borg Warners w/ thick steels.
