Default detailed wiring help

alright so i installed the trans filter and corresponding temp gauge. the diagram was kinda confusing. in the pod there is 2 positive wires one to a light and one to the pod. for the temp sending unit a wire runs from the pod to the thermo in the auxillary port on the remote filter. i read it as the temp unit had the wire running from the pod to it and had a ground coming from it too in addition to the ground from the pod. ? problem is when i start the car and power is given the gauge maxes out and the light is on. its like no information is being transmitted and the power is just being turned on. theres no way from a cold start my trans fluid is at 340 * can someone descrivbe how to wire up this gauge/

The Sending unit needs to be grounded, If the Filter is mounted to metal it should have a good ground. If it's just supported by the hose then it has no ground. You can try a seperate wire to the body of the sender and see if thats the case. If that ain't it we'll figure it out.

why not get the sensor and gauge that go in the pressure port on the trans itself right about the neutral saftey switch?

I have the Autometer gauge. and i have mine in the pressure port. but i put a lil Teflon on the sensor, but ive read thats a bad idea. so now i got to take it off..

My sensor just stays at the far left, it moves just a hair when power it put to it.

ok first of all i actually do have a wire going from the sending unit to metal. AND the whole set up is mounted to a metal heat shield with my intake. should be grounded well enough. i didnt put the sending unit in the thing in the trans becaused if i dont fill the auxillary port of the remote system then it is completely useless and this is the way that came with instructions, yes i TREID to use the intructions. i may just have to scan in a copy of the diagram...

another question...is it ok just to use a simple positive feed from under the dash somewhere....i have no idea where the ignition switch is and if all else i can trash the light bulb to keep the battery from dying if it has to be always on... wiring isnt exactly my thing so i just connected them to a red power wire running to an old trailor brake

Soon2bSpooled,

Don't let the diagram overwhelm you - it's only four conenctions and one goes to the temp sending unit. As stated before the temp sending unit grounds itself - so make darn sure where ever it is mounted, it is definitely grounded, or the gauge will not function properly.

The other three wires: ground, headlight switch, and ignition switch. Yes, you could connect to any 12v power source- but for proper functionality, let's just go with the correct wires.

Take a look at this post and check out the picture that is posted, hopefully this will help you. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=265663

Find someone with a multimeter that knows how to use it - very handy to have and will save you some heartache. And also remember, whenever doing electrical work, always disconnect the battery ground!
