I never use the long pin. (3 ID groove) I have found that the pin with 2 ID grooves works just fine. You can always flip the 4th servo piston in the cover to tighten up the band if needed. As far as shift kits go I have used the HD-2 kit for years. Recently I have been using the new sonnax hp kit with the transgo 7-CS spring kit for the input drum. I do add a set of abuse plugs in the valve body and the HD 2-3 shift valve to the package. Seems to work pretty well from the feed back I have received so its another alternative for you guys. Hope this helps you fill in the blanks. Vince

The idea behind using the vet servo is to firm up the 1-2 shift by increasing the fluid surface area of the piston. With adding surface area for the fluid apply we also add holding power/force on the band for second gear with the vet servo. In your trucks there is normally a 553 piston which has less surface area than the vet servo. I use to have a picture with all the servo's and their dimensions. I'll have to see if I can locate it.
