Is it possible that my converter is not shimed and there is enough space to pull it out of the pump and not engage it? Brand new trans and converter and there is no pressure I'm on my own to figuring this out any help will be appreciated. I still need to pull starter and unbolt the stall and get a measurement just came to me in the middle of the night so I asked. Lol. Specs in signature.

 

I would have to be basically made incorrectly for it to pull completely out. The reason to measure spacing is you want room for the converter to expand but have as much engagement as possible so the ears on the hub dont break off under heavy load. Thats the reason for setting the spec the way they do. Too tight and you risk thrust bearing damage on the crankshaft from the converter pushing forward on it, too loose and you can break the converter hub which would require it be removed and repaired.

 

Spec is .125", +/-.050".

I use a .125" (1/8th) drill bit to measure.
