Default Converter Quality... Any Thoughts???

Everyone has their opinions of what's good & what's not so good. I've had my share of driveline issues, and thought I'd be "ok" with most of what I had. Reason being, my truck's no powerhouse. In any case, I've had "chat sessions" with people about what's the best of the best, and what to stay away from. Not going to bad-mouth brands, but on the "better" side of the list, PI & Yank were two brands that won the "populus" vote.

Yup, this thread was started b/c I'm looking to hear what everyone else has to say about manufacturers' quality of converters. The reason I'm doing so is b/c I've had a recent converter issue that showed up, but can't point a finger at the specific cause of failure. Some of you may know about my lock-up clutch rattling issue. Yes, sir! Annoying as it was, it didn't affect "overall" performance of the trans (at least not from the butt-o-metter), but it was loud as HELL! Well, a leak MAGICALLY appeared, and got worse the more I drove the truck. Frustrated with yet ANOTHER trans-related issue, the truck sat parked for a while. Figuring I needed a new converter (but had little to NO money), I saved up enough to go with a highly recommended Yank. YAAAAAAAAAAY! Now, I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

In the meantime, I'm drinking a beer while standing outside looking at the transmission (4L60E) I'm going to tear down & stuff a load of stronger parts in. I look over at the PTC3000 converter sitting flipped over in my junk-fluid collection pan. I lift it out to take a few pics at what I believe is a MAJOR thing that I didn't notice until after I got the converter back from a local shop who flushed it during the last trans rebuild. I've talked too much already, so here's the pics of what I found. I'll wait for your comments later...

I've had two Yanks and they are rock solid! Looking into getting one for the Tahoe.

I haven't had any problems with my tiny B&M converter.

Maybe I don't understand something but for the life of me I don't get how a converter of any level quality fails at that point. All it drives is the pump. Right?

surprisingly, it didn't break while I put another 800 miles on the trans. It was time for a new converter. Dunno how these cracks showed up. I'm sure the Yank will perform well.
