Default Converter Install

Okay. So now i'm concerned. I was looking into the bolt sizes for my TCI converter and ran across a couple things on LS1tech.

If it's a Yank converter it might use 6 bolts to mount. If it's a TCI they use larger bolts which require you to enlarge the mounting holes with a 7/16 drill.
Do I really need to drill?

And according to a write up done by vince. the Converter should move by hand.
Mines hard to move. Do I need to pull it out and start over?

I really hope i didn't damage the pump

Okay. Went ahead and pulled it out. Took it the converter tot he store and got some 7/16-20 bolts that fit the converter and didn't need to drill the flexplate.
Put it back in and the converter is a little easier to turn when all the way bolted in. Last night it was pretty hard.
The difficulty is coming when the Center of the converter goes into the center of the Flex Plate.

is it only hard to turn when you push the converter forward and the hub goes into the flywheel/crank? Or is it hard to turn all the time?

The TC should spin easily when the TC is pushed all the way into the trans.
When you engage the TC hub center into the flexplate, whether it spinds easily at this point doesnt matter as its not designed to turn at all once the bolts are installed.

So long as the TC spins freely when its pushed into the trans all the way, your fine.

A bit off topic, but why would you go with a TCI converter after all the bad stuff on here about them?

It's only hard to spin once its into the flexplate. before that it spins freely. so its all good.

I actually got this a while back before I had read any of that stuff. Paid 330 for it and right now it's all I have. Just going to run it until I get money for a TT3200.
With it up on ramps like it is now I can move around and sit up under the truck with ease. So I should be able to swap out TC's later by my self.
I actually unhooked it this morning and dropped it back down myself so I could get the converter out.

WTF is wrong with the people who design this ****? GOD DAMNIT!!!
So I had the thing in once, took it out cuz the bolts didnt fit. Got bolts that fit and since a few threads said I had to drill out the holes to fit, I went ahead and put the bolt into one of the holes on the flexplate to see if I had to drill. It went in perfectly fine.
So I get everything hooked back up again. get 2/3 of the way done with the torque converter and ONE ******* hole on the flexplat is OVAL. not ROUND like the rest but ******* OVAL. WHO the HELL made this decision?
Someone sitting around stoned one day and decide to just **** with everyone and make ONE damn hole oval?

Got it back in and the converter spins BY HAND while the bellhousing is bolted to the block. So when I messed with it this last time, I managed to get it in all the way. Didn't have a 7/16 bit so I had to use a 3/8 bit and just have at the hole until it was bit enough. Broke my bit but got it did.

The only thing I needed help with was Getting the block pegs into the bell housing because the ground isn't level so I had to lift the trans while someone else pulled the jack.
Tomorrow should be the final day. I just hope I didn't mess up the pump those first 2 times I bolted it up.
