Default Cold tranny problems

It's been pretty cold here for the last week or so. Today it was 0* for a high w/ it -10* or so the last couple of nights. I went to drive my truck today (it hasn't been driven in about a week, but I let it warm up for 10 min. or so) and it didn't want to shift out of 2nd, then after giving it a little more gas it went into 3rd. It kept doing this delayed shift into 3rd for quite a while. It wasn't a hard shift, it was normal...it just revved up alot more than usual. No slipping, the more gas i gave it, the faster it went. When the truck was fully warmed up (driving for about 15 minutes) it shifted just like it should. I've never had any of my vehicles do this before, but this is my 1st FS. Normal because of the extreme cold? Or bigger problems? 53K on it, service done in Aug. w/ 50K on it. TIA.

Thanks for the info guys...just wanted to be sure it wasn't the unreliability of the 4L60E coming into play.

I have a 2000 GMC and it does the same damn thing. Still bothers me but at least it isn't just me. I also noticed that when she's cold and is in overdrive at 55 or so she is pulling a few hundred more RPMs then normal. Also has a tendency to drop from 3rd back second after shifting into 3rd and letting off the gas soon afterwards.

Vehicles are a lot like owning a house, always something..

My 99 GMC does the same. I agree, I think its the programming, to try to heat the trans up for cold weather. That doesn't bother me as much as the bang and clang of the drivetrain...and the multiple u-joints ive gone through in 40K miles.
