Default carrier???

ok, i bought a carrier out of a caprice. its an auburn 8.5,30 spline carrier. i also have an install kit with 8.6 bearings. the problem is that the hubs on the on the carrier are too small for the bearings. does anyone know what bearings will work. thanks in advance.

I got myself in the same problem a while back. I was told that I was SOL. I ended up getting a new unit made for my truck. You'd think there would be a bearing out there to compensate the difference. Good luck with it.

I was told that you can not run them as well. It sucks cause those units are all over the place. and cheap

well i guess its true there is no bearing to fit the thing. I am having some shims made to press around the hub on the carrier so that the 8.6 bearing will fit. i guess it sounds ghetto, but i guess it might work. the only problem is that the shims will only be a few tenths thick and i dont know if they will be stong enough to withstand the pressure of pressing them on

CNCing them to direct specs should work out fine IMO. The inner ring of the bearing isn't all that thick either. I dont see why it wouldn't work.

I think you're asking for a couple of spun bearings. Why spend the money on machining some spacers? Sell the Caprice carrier and get the right parts.

well the shims arn't costing us anything and i don't see why it wont work all as long as it will withstand the pressure of being pressed on then they will be fine, its just like having a larger hub for the bearing to spin on, plus i think its worth a shot because im in the same boat
