Be careful what you wish for

Hey guys.
My last performance tweak was to get rid of the spare tire and hardware, but now I find myself squealing the rear tires more than I want to when I launch in 2WD, which the police have now spoken to me about (Arrgh!) I was not driving so aggressively that I would have caught their attention if I did not squeal

I am still on stock tires, and was wondering how much better grip will I get from going to Nitto 420S or Toyo Proxes ST's (assuming I can still get the early version?
What is not in my signature is that I have a Leer cap on the truck, which does give a bit more weight over the rear tires. (sometimes I even use it as a truck and load stuff in the rear).
I would love to hear your recommendations for better grip, based on what I have dome so far.

Thanks 454, I have the GM tire inflator kit, which will help for around town, and I throw the tire in the bed for long trips.
Would caltracs be a better first step than new tires for grip?

I think I remember a good many that ran the General Grabber UHP (I think) on stock wheels and had good luck. Don't know if they still make them or not, but they were cheap too iirc. Of course the Toyos have a good rep too. But definitely do wider than stock.

I honestly do not think there is a street tire that grips on the street. Maybe the nittos, but I have tried a couple different tires and none of them grip at all. I'm running a 285/55r18 cooper zeon tire right now and they measure at 11" wide and I still spin them like they were nothing, from a roll and from a stop. I think the only reason some of the people on here have good luck with street traction is because they have better weight transfer than others.

put new tires on the squeal wont be as bad unless you punch it. I find it hard to believe tho that you "werent driving aggressively" when you squealed your tires. however when I had the stockers on my truck just making a turn the fronts would squeal and hop. Change the tires you'll be fine.

if I didnt squeal, nobody would have noticed, I just punched it a bit off the line, less than one second of squeal and I backed off. It's not like i floored it, or even kept my foot into it that long.
Anyway thats my story, it told it to the cops (which you would expect from me) but I'm telling it to you because thats what happened. Unlike the cops, you guys can help me not raise attention the next time. Their answer would be something like "dont drive so aggressively" and there is that word again, damn!
some people who are sick go to the doctor, others look for more people who share the same disease. XD
