Default Can my RCSB 5 speed be built into a 6 speed? OR make longer gears?

Sorry stupid question.

I dont want to mess with putting in a t-56 if I will need to cut a new hole in my floor from where my current factory 5 speed is, it is an 05 which I heard you can re-use the cross member. I dont care about driveshafts since I am going to have one built soon anyway. I have a rare regency silver rst rcsb and dont want to chop into too much.

Just want longer gears or my 5 speed made into a 6 speed or something so that when I go to 4.11 or 4.56 gears Its not redlining on the highway and killing mpg, lol.

Your thoughts thanks!

I have seen several trucks convert from the 5 speed to the 6 speed so it can be done but dont ask me how. Im sure its pretty straight forward I would think but not sure. Im sure the guys who have done this will chime in...

No you can not make a 5 into a 6.. There is not much fabbing that has to be done to put a 56 in place of your 5 speed..

You can't turn a V6 into a V8 right? It would be more practical to swap a T56 if you really want a 6spd, you are halfway there anyway.

This sticky should give you a pretty good idea of what's involved doing the swap. Have fun its about 100 pages long.

No. Just get a 6 spd. Shouldn't be too bad since like said, you're sporting a 5M already.

THat Thread is an A4 to M6.

Anybody know if there is a m5 to m6 thread on our site or gmfullsize or anything?

Main concern is will my current cross member work or will i need a new one.

What year T56 would be best? One out of a newer ctsv or camaro? or stick with an older 98-02 trans am or camaro??

Thanks!

Sorry, I only go on PT.

I'm unsure, but I know some(one) on here did it.

Maybe call a yard, & ask or research it a bit. Some 6 spds. position shifter at different angle (i.e. Vette ZF comes to mind) & also depending on F-body or whatever, shifter position may be fore or aft of your current location. Get some measurements or find the specs to verify, I'd hate to see ya get in a trick bag. Then try to offload or cobble to fit if it's not the most ideal T56.
