Broken 80e!

I think thats a very good idea to go through the unit. I would agree with Chris that you had a bearing failure. Then again its pretty obvious with the stuff you are pulling out of the trans. I would say that the converter was failing and that is where your temp problems started. Vince

[QUOTE=smokeshow;4723051]I'm probably going to buy a converter from Circle-D, probably a 2B triple disc.
i had a 3b first but was blowing thru it so he tightened it up to a 1a and im very satified with it...

Pulled the trans apart, made some discoveries...

Direct clutchpack

Intermediate clutchpack

Chewed up intermediate clutch

Burned intermediate steel

Little abrasion on the band

The pump looks pretty good...theory busted

OD clutchpack looks ok...this is the worst one

Forward clutchpack

Burned up forward steel
Called the local transmission parts supplier, got a price on some kolene steels and red alto clutches for the forward, intermediate and direct clutchpacks, along with a rebuild kit. Hopefully I can get them today and possibly have the trans back together this weekend. Will have to wait about a week on the converter, though.

Alright, so we'll just say silver-mod-o put 5k on that verter, bringing the total up to 8-9k. My PI failed with about 18-20K on it, and bud8's with 10-12k.
Seems to me that 8-10k would be a good time to pull the converter and have it freshened up. What you guys think?

That seems a little ridiculous to me. Are all of these failures the same type of failure, or are different internal parts crapping out?
Atomic, was your trans a fresh build, or did you install it used?
