Well, at least the pump, I think. Had problems keeping the trans cool the other day, so I immediately rerouted the trans cooler lines to bypass the radiator and was driving along just fine and suddenly lost all gears. Had a friend rev the engine while watching the desired line pressure in the HPT scanner. Felt the trans cooler lines, and there was no pressure increase at all. So, pump is the prognosis.
Magnet was clean, but I did have metal shavings in the pan...

Shavings from the torn up pump?

No word on the pump yet, but this is what the converter looks like...

Pulled some **** out of it, the other piece is still stuck in there. Sounded like there was some nasty grinding when I turned it after the tranny came out.

Sent an email to Circle-D to get some ideas for the new converter. Might as well get the triple disc and call it good so there won't be any worry about the clutch again, particularly during loaded dyno pulls. Unless Chris recommends otherwise...as I don't plan on WOT lockup regardless.
I really don't have a clue what happened yet. I was thinking that some debris from the converter may have got past the filter and landed itself in the pump, but the filter wasn't too bad. I'll pull the pump out in the morning and inspect for any obvious damage. I'm no transmission builder but I'm sure I can spot something amiss. If the pump is indeed trashed, which I believe it is...I don't doubt the converter and pump problems are related.

It might be kind of like the chicken or the egg here. Did the pump take a dump and screw up the converter, or did the converter starve the pump and eat it.
I've heard of the latter happening when you sit on the converter a long time.

The transmission is going to need a rebuild. After seeing all the debris in the pan that wasn't clutch material and pulling that junk out of the converter, theres no telling what else is lingering around in there.
