Default Broken 1-2 accumulator piston and spring

Last week I noticed that under ligjht accelaration that it seemed like i was pulling a trailer or something was holding the truck back in first gear and then when it shifted into second in would bang and bark the tires.

Now I have had a Transgo HD II shift kit in the truck for 45,000 miles with no problems, well after reading the forums and talking with the guys at Pheonix Tranmissions I decided to drop the pan and have a look, I found the 1-2 (plastic) accumulator piston broken and the orange spring that the Transgo HD II shift kit installs broken, so I bought an after market alluminum piston and had to buy another TransGo HD II shift kit to get the orange spring.

Anyway there was very little dust in the pan so I think I saved my Transmission.

But why did the Trango orange spring brake and will it brake again? I under stand why the cheep GM plastic piston broke and I have that fixed with the new alluminum one but what can I do about the spring?

I am no spring engineer, but it is my understanding springs generally have the best life if kept between 20% and 80% compression. Is it possible the spring is being overstressed in this application leading to the breakage?

wow... the plastic piston is more common than most think, but I am speechless on THAT spring breaking.
