Any way to tell if this tranny I picked up is a 4l65e? I doubt it is but junk yard marked 4l65e on it. I have a 05 z71 L33 truck with a smoked 4l60e in it and picked up this trans today, it says it came out of a 04 5.3L 4x4 chevy pick up. The stickers on the trans are all there and so is the on on the converter. The one on the trans says 4KCD in big letters.

Anybody know what to look for? Think this trans will work in my 05 ok? I get conflicting reports, some say it will work others say 05 06 are different and need one of those

thanks

Thanks, you were just the guy i was hoping that would answer my question. Is there any way to tell just by looking at the outside of the tranny to see the difference in a 4l65 or 4l60?

I'm thinking about rebuilding the smoked trans myself, do you sell parts or can you tell me where to get good parts? Any mod suggestions? I pull trailers with the truck, nothing too heavy just mostly 4 wheelers ect. I don't race the truck but I do beat on it and would like it to shift firmer but not give up any reliability or destroy other parts like rear ends or transfercases.

This will be my first automatic rebuild, but I have rebuilt 5 t56 6 speeds and i can't imagine autos are that much harder. correct me if I'm wrong though.

Thanks
Travis

A few of the things I have in my transmission
-Full Rebuild
-New 3-4 Clutch pack
-Shift Kit
-Vette Servos
-larger stator shaft
-Hardened input drum
-Input Drum sleeve
-new 34(or was it 29?) element sprag
-A few more valve body upgrades
-Vacuum mod(shift firmness determined by amount of vacuum)
-I've got a quite a bit more into it, but those are some of the first things that come to mind.
