Default Stall or Not

"Convector" Stay with the stock one or do I need a stall. Truck is stock 5.3 with the blower "Maggie" and the 4L80e and the 3:43 rearend. The truck will be used for pulling a 24' enclose some. I have been told both ways witch would be best?

If your going to be pulling i'd stay with the stock converter or get a big diameter tight yank.

Every time I used a stall I regretted it. Felt sluggish, trans ran hotter and used a lot more gas during normal driving. This is just my experience. With the maggie you should have plenty of bottom end, I would put the money towards gears if your towing. Im running 20 wheels with 4.11 gears and my mileage is about the same as when I had 3.42 with a little smaller tire but it tows much nicer.

The stock 80e converter is loose enough for DD fun and good for your aplication. I'd swap gears and install a big trans cooler for towing.

Thumbs up

You would not have the blower if you were not a speed freek.
So.. if you have the stock 1/2 ton truck converter it stalls at 1600 rpm..4L80E 2200rpm
You have that low number rear end hurtin you.
I have the 2500HD with a procharger at 11# my stock stall was 2200 I went to a 3000 with lock up. I would say for performance the higher stall converter was the greatest thing I ever did. Before I could only get a 5' burn-out.
NOW I can burn the tires threw 1st, 2nd. and part of 3rd. on dry pavement with a 7000# truck. I my case the Procharger needed the extra rpm but.. a higer stall in any truck blown or not will give you a better 60' time your 1-2 shift will seem like one gear your 2-3 will not drop rpm so much.
DO IT you will love it.
