Yeah it would heat things up alot with it unlocking all the time. Then not having a cooler...i can see how it would cause failure fairly easy.
Not sure if you ever got the truck tuned for the stall but if no then that was the problem.
A stall of even 3k is high enough to cause problems if the pcm isn't tuned for the higher stall converter.
It will flash high and cause misfire codes which will make it unlock the tc fairly often.

i's in he trans options but i forget where exactly...i decent lockup speed is about 40mph.
but you also need to detune/desensatize"sp" the knock sensors because a high stall causes misfire codes to pop up and will make the stall unlock.
also you might need to up the apply pressure for the lock up or it can unlock as well.

The stock trannies are not made for what most of us put them through, they will break.I would not blame the converter though as it would have gone even with the stock converter one day.

i've had my same yank (tt3000) in two different trucks so far. around 20,000 or more in the silverado and 20,000+ later in the tahoe i just lost reverse and first. i've towed with it through the hills and raced with it. mine at first unlocked and locked all the time too. i took the tcc duty to 100 max and 90 min in hptuners. that fixed that. *note* on mine i'm 99.9% sure it was the 10psi boost that did it in not the TC.
oops just remembered i did an search. didn't relize this thread was old
