Default best tire & size for towing droppped?

I running an 01 ECSB, 4/6 drop, & 18" wheels. My main mission is towing my 5000lb. boat. I just picked up these...

18" X 8.5" what tire size would work without alot of rub? Also, load rating & wet traction is very important. Thanks in advance

What is your backspacing (or offset)?

Some of the other guys (with lowered vehicles) can corect me if I'm wrong. . . but I would think with that drop you would want to keep the tires completely tucked, especially if towing. With a 5.25" backspace, you are gonna be running a skinny tire (something with a section width of no more than 9"), by my calculations. That around a 225 size tire, which *might* be to skinny for an 8.5" wheel.

A 5.75" (or more) backspace would provide you with better options.

I'm running an 18x8 with 5.5 backspace. So you would be 1/2" farther out than me. You could get by with a 285 depending heavily on the TREAD width of the tire you choose. The SECTION width of the tire won't be what you need for tire rub.

Since, tread width is not the widest point of the tire, what kind of tire rub are we talking about here? I'm feeling a little lost.

I have the same drop, 4/6. As in my case, and it sounds like yours too, I do not have optimal backspacing so a shorter sidewall tire had to be used so it did not rub. I would also suggest helper bags since you do plan to tow.

I am running helper bags, at least they should be installed after this week. I'm thinking like 275/45/18? I thought 5.25" backspacing was pretty optimal?

I think a little more would be ideal, but I don't know as much about backspacing as some of the others. That tire should be fine as it is only .1" larger than what I am running and I don't rub any.
