Default axle wrap help

Ok the other day I pulled from a light hard on nitrous. ( i know it was stupid) And blew out my locker I also though now have horrible axle wrap when i go from park to reverse or reverse to drive. The rear diff moves up and down a good inch and a half.

I swapped out the locker with a trutrak and that part is good but Im still getting the rotation. long term i need to get traction bars. Short term i was going to cut my u bolts and install new ones to make sure the springs arE bolted well and also intall a helper spring to try and stop the rotation. I am sure if it is doing it now it is definitely doing it under power.

Has anyone delt with this at this level just by putting it into gear?

Thanks for reading

Sounds like something else broke
Check transmission mount
Carrier mount if you have a 2 peice driveshaft

Its a single shaft. I had a steel one made and a new yoke a few months ago. I will look. Possibly a broken leaf?

Thanks for the suggestion

Ok so it turns out the rotation was the u bolts were loose. Not hand loose but loose enough. I tightend them up and it stopped.

Now i have have a vibration. Most noticeable around 20 but it is constant at any Speed. I checked the u joint and yoke and those were fine. When i put the shaft back on it was tight to get it back in. Almost like the length was shortened. Could i have bent an axle or possibly the drive shaft? I do not hear a whine at all so i do not think its the new diff.

thanks for any help

Having the u bolts loose allowed the axle to rotate. Your pinion angle is likely off. Check your angles. Transmission and pinion should be parallel. The working angle of the u joint should ideally be between0.5 to 3 degrees per spicer. Harbor Freight sells angle finders for $10. Make sure you tighten the u bolts to spec otherwise it's going to loosen up again.

As long as it doesnt have a flip kit then the oem angle wont change.
Did you check the gears when you had it apart? Also if it broke with the ubolts loose it could have hurt the output shaft

You both are correct. First the gear were fine. The angle was off a bit. I also had my yoke torqued to much. As if that wasn't enough. I cracked the tube at both perches and i crushed the tube under one of the ubolt plates. when i tightend the bolts it caused the tube to rotate. Nitrous is brutal on top of salted roads in Pennsylvania.

I picked up another rear end with 3:73 gears and i will swap everything over and put it in tomorrow. All in time for the turbo going in this weekend.

Drag week here i come if i dont keep breaking stuff. Lol

Assuming you are referring to me, the front yoke and pinion yoke should be parallel. I measure the trans angle on the machined surface at the output. Then use the pinion yoke with not driveshaft in place.
