I've done plenty of motors... next "black box" for me was the tranny. This is my first attempt at a transmission. I slowly over time collected 4L80E Kent Moore tools on ebay. While I did that I paid attention to guys like blown3qtr, PM'd JamesB and others, obtaining and reading manuals, and talking with the Pro's at FLT. I purchased pretty much everything through Vince and Chuck at FLT. They have both been a VERY big help. I'll be finishing up this week I hope. Installation may not come till after the holidays... I am really stoked about this buildup

Thanks bro... appreciate it. blown3qtr and JamesB, by just going ahead and doing it themselves, inspired me to try. Pro's like Vince and Chuck answered all my questions professionally. Now, my contraption has to work at the end of the day

Thanks Howard

Here is some finishing shots of the assembly...

Reverse band apply pin check. This is putting 25lbtq on the Kent Moore pin gauge to determine / verify correct pin length needed.

B side of pin...

A side of pin... so looks like the pin I took out is the one I should reuse...

Reverse band apply pin... according to the ATSG manual and based on pin gauge depth checks this is the pin I'll (re)use. Pro's, if I got this wrong please speak up... its obviously no big deal to redo this check...

Some drillin' on the valve body as per instructions in the transgo HD2 kit... the supplied plate will sit right on top of these holes and the pressure switch manifold goes right on top of the plate.

More or less finished... just a filter, (rigid)gasket, and pan. I'll be using the stock pan at least until I figure out what I'm going to do with the crossmember I have.

It appears I cannot use a deep pan with the cross member I have... and I have been eyeing a Mag Hytec for the job. There have been a couple of guys that modify the stock cross member by sectioning it and moving the middle portion back 6.25 inches or so. This is what I'm looking to do so that I have plenty of working room around a deep pan. I forget the guys that did this but if anyone has done this before and wants to make a few extra bucks... let me know

I'm sure it will work Bill.
I didn't go to the lengths you did and mine is working great.

Here's a couple more shots of finishing up loose ends...

I bought a weldable -6AN fitting... filed off the spring clip area of the stock fitting and will have it TIG welded.

Finished product

Here is (on the left) an adaptor I found at the Parker store. Its a -6AN adaptor with British straight pipe threads. The guy told me that this particular size isn't much different than 1/4 pipe threads... only about a thread per inch... and of course no taper. Also, the British adaptor side had a stepped down ID as compared to the -6AN side... nothing a drill bit can't take of Looking at the transmission case it appears to me the machined bosses for both cooler fittings are the same. Since the rear fitting has an o-ring seal I though I would attempt the same for the front. If it doesn't work I have a 1/4 NPT-6AN adaptor (on the right) ready to go.
