another 4L60E kill...in the DD
#12
Ya, I'm hoping to make a build thread if I try and rebuild this one. I only have about a thousand dollars to spend so a budget is important. at 115,000 miles the trans went out and I had aamco rebuild it. they under warranty replaced 6 transmissions between 115 and 135k. the warranty went up and I put an hd-2 and vette servo and tb stall. its been great with my new motor for 10k miles. Thanks for the responses, its nice to know I'm not alone in times of great need! I'll report back as I come up with ideas.

Aamco Is the problem... As I said before place's like that only fix the problem not an entire Rebuild... In stock form it went 123,xxx miles. That's the proof right there... I would rather buy a reman with exchange through the dealer at my cost then go to one of those places...

Vince likes a thread? Must be one that refers to FLT.
All jokes aside, PT sponsor(s) build reputable hardware. Customer service is top notch (my personal experience & word on da street). If none of your gears worked (manual 1, 2, 3 or D), are you sure the trans is circulating fluid? Just a thought.
Rebuilds (like said earlier) from Aamco aren't gonna improve anything (as you already know). Keep in mind, it's not hard to rebuild (better than stock) yourself. If you have any mechanical competence, you can rebuild yourself. However, there are methods to how the pros create quality.
4L80s are great for reliability, but the 4L6x trans can be built to hold NA power (up to 500hp). It can be a descent "budget" build.

i killed 2 65e's in one day....fist one smoked the clutches... rebuilt it wil al red eagle and kolenes ....then put it back in and snapped the hardened output, grenaded both 5 pinion planetaries, broke the beast and cracked the case. 2-1 downshift and the tires hooked....oops. it was a bad day.

How did you like the red eagle clutches??? Some say there better and some say they don't notice the difference.
Still got that cracked case???

So far, my plan is to dolley the truck down to school (pitt state) and do some testing on it before tearing it out. I'm taking an automatic transmission class at the moment and I got the ok from my instructor to use it for class credit! I'll be keeping track of everything as I go.. I have limitied knowledge of the 60e but I have every tool available at school and with some patience and alot of research I think I'm going to try and do this one myself. Everyone keeps saying its the builder not the parts so I've set a rough budget of $600 for hard parts and Will take my sweet *** time doing the teardown and rebuild. I never plan to put down over 350 to the tires so I'm hoping that will allow this to be a simple budget street strip rebuild. Thanks again for all the insight guys,

i like the alto red eagle product...worked great in my 4.8/112 4L65. it was the 6.1 hat killed it...haha
no, i dont have the case anymore...poor junkyard took it as a core for my 80e.... it completely separated the tail housing flange...1/2 inch.

Hence, why I adjusted my 2-1 tables to raise the threshold. 2nd gear is strong enuff to propel truck w/ 4.10s.
Have always heard the RE's would hold.... until I burned a set of those.
Currently running BW-HE clutches. Knock-on-Wood, no problems to speak of.
