Not doubting the weight loss , but can you physically tell a "weight" is missing on the shaft? I still have a suspicion about my DS not being balanced correctly. Unfortunately, I have to take off from work to have it checked (no shop open on weekends ).

Sucks about the carnage. Built tranny, FTW!!!

with his drop, the rear of the driveshaft hit the rear crossmember he said? and we have a driveshaft from an identical truck and it has a weight on all the same spots, so thats our guess. when he got to high speed bad vibration in the back and gets worse on the tranny end and boom.

The weight looks like it was clearly slung off. I contacted another local transmission shop, and possibly said the driveshaft might have slammed against the housing, due to the fact that the truck is lowered. Not a 100% sure on that one. The output shaft broke off in the housing as seen in the pics. Obviously the front yoke is gone also.

Looks like the output shaft broke and shattered up the housing on its way out

I agree, I dont see anything in the trans making a vibration like that and then blowing the tailshaft off. I think the joint went out and took the back of the trans with it. Nice Pics tho

Everything except the output shaft breaking happened to my first trans @ 95mph. I'm on the 2nd DS from the same builder, and a hint of the vibe is still there at that speed. I'll take a day off to have another DS shop spin the shaft to check the balancing.

Yes without the support of the tail housing bushing everything just flew all to hell ,
