Default adjusting caltracs

Did some searching and found limited info on what's been working good for you guys, I know every setup is going to be different but I just got them and it looks like I'm only going to make 1 truck day this year yet and if like to get the most of it, all I have is v6 springs and no sway bar and running 30in Mt drag radials.
First of all do you run them on the bottom hole or second? Right now I have them in the bottem but the bar is angled slightly down, would it help to raise it to the second hole to make the bar straight? I was told a 1-4in of pre load does that sound right?
IM new to sus work so any help would be awsome.

I believe you want the bar to be parallel to the ground. As far as pre-load, from what Ive read you want to get the stop to touch the spring, and then do another 1-2 turns.

Im sure someone who has them will chime in soon though

Ive had mine set to where the stop just barely touches the spring but the way it was spinning last time at the track i think i need a bit more preload. Start with them just touching and do a 1/4 turn more preload each time u make a pull or pass till u feel they are good enough

Yeah it seems like you would want some pre load, the bar not being straight just seems like it would push down instead of forward and up, I think IM going to try raising them to the second hole and see what happens, it's just so hard to tell on the street if it's helping or not.

You want to have the bar parallel to the ground if possible. Adjust the length until the bar touches the top of the leaf spring with the driver in the driver seat. Then adjust it 1/4 turn at a time(2 flats on the hex), and see how it reacts. Typically, seems like 1/4 to 1/2 turn preload works best for most. But I've heard that 1 1/2 turns is always too much. Never ever went that far on the ones I've set up.

Ok I played with them a little yesterday, ever since a put the v6 springs in the truck leans a little, it's higher on the passenger side, and it's only worse when IM setting in there. The driver side the bar was 3-4in lower in the front and passenger side was 1-4in lower. I raised them to the middle hole witch raises them 1.5 inches. So what I need to do now is cut the front passenger spring till the truck sets dead level with me in there. Then both bars should be 1-2 to 3-4 higher up front. I think that should work pretty good.

A spring spacer on the drivers side might work a little better. Raising the front end seems to help weight transfer. Caltracs- Lower hole= softer hit, Upper hole= harder hit, the angle of the bar means nothing. If you have a lowering shackle remove it, it's always better to raise the front spring eye location to help forward bite.

Lower hole 1/4 turn preload here.

I have lowering shackles and over loads out and 8 inches cut off both ends of the bottem spring in the back, front is v6 springs cut 1-4 a turn. It's dropped 1.5 in the front and 3.5 rear from stock. I really like the way it sets, it makes sense to take the shackles out and pull the back of the spring back down, but how do I keep it lowered then? I could take the bottem spring clear out and put the over loads back in, but idk if it would be a good idea to run just the one spring.
