Default 99 sierra drive shaft

I'm new here but not new to performance or anything else automobile related. I'm sure this has been covered before and would google search just don't have the time at the moment. I acquired a 1999 GMC sierra 1500 3 door short bed. When i got it the drive shaft had been removed to replace one on another truck. The rear yoke on the drive shaft is broken. I found a drive shaft in a friends totaled 2000 GMC sierra 2500, that he gave me for free. From the measurements i made in the dark by cell phone light it looks like the drive shaft is about 2 inches short, and the caps on the universal joints are 1/16 to 1/8 inch larger on 2500 shaft (correct me if I'm wrong). The length I'm not so concerned about because i already have an extended slip yoke from a lifted truck i had previously and if its to long ill have it cut down to work properly. My question is, is there a universal joint that will fit both my rear end and slip yoke and will fit the 2500 shaft? Is there some kind of sleeve that will go in between the stock 1500 cap and the yoke on the 2500? I'm sure the first response i get will be just have the stock repaired but thats out of the question because i cant see paying $650 at the only drive shaft repair shop around. Any help or ideas to get this straight would be greatly appreciated as my wife starts working again on monday and i have to get the kids to the day care. Thanks again!

You can adapt some 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton drivetrain components together using a 3R to 1350 U-Joint.

Would you be able to tell me where i can find those. i went to the local Oriellys and Advance, and the caps wont interchange. the 2500 joint has a bigger cap and joint. the joint for the 1500 is smaller so the cap wont go on the 2500 joint and opposite the other way. while i was under changing out my transfer case this morning i tried coming up with another solution. i see theres a nut on the rear end on the piece the u bolts go into. if i take that nut off and go get that piece off the 2500 it should work. if i take that nut off will it cause any problems. does it hold the pinion gear in place or is there a snap ring that does that? if theres a snap ring ill simply pull that nut and interchange. Thanks again!

Can anyone tell me if the yoke on the rear end of the 2500 has the same size nut on the pinion as the 1500. If so that's how I plan to fix my u joint size issues. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
