#1
Hi,
'05 RCSB 5.3 2WD Stock beside specter CAI, Checked my trans oil and it's darkish red, not bright red as a new oil.
should i change it? car shift A-OK.
Also when i got the car @88K miles the oil was bright red and now its darker, i rarely get hard on it, is this normal?

I would just drive it too, but it wouldn't hurt to change it again and get a new filter. I think it takes around 5 quarts just in the pan, and around 11 for a total rebuild of a 4L60 and 8/14 quarts for a 4L80.

My guess is someone changed it right before you got it (prob why is was bright red). As you drive all the other oil in the tranny that didn't get changed (about 7 more quarts of dirty oil), has gradually mixed in with the fresh stuff (5 quarts) turning it darker.

NO. Don't change it.
If you change it at this point you will likely remove what's holding the clutches together. Many many many transmissions that were not properly maintained worked right up until someone decided that changing the fluid 50,000 miles past it's expiration date would be a good idea.
Pretty much the old fluid has developed a friction material suspension and this keeps the clutches biting when applied. New fluid doesn't have this.

Seen this happen several times in person. Leave it as is and drive it. If the fluid changed color as u described it may be on it way out.
