80e makes wining noise in first only. I drop in it in 1st and it doesnt make it. Is low/rev band?

 

They have strait cut gears in first so they whine. That's normal for 4l80e's

 

This wine gradually gets louder and louder. It is loud when cold and louder at operating temp.

Not true, most 80Es are helical cut. They all (80Es) whine a little in first, though.

However, I do have a 4L80e with th400 straight cut planets in my car at the moment. It whines noticeably more than the stock helical cut. However, straight cut planets usually wear a lot faster since they tend to rock back and forth since there is no thrust.

 

Mine is quite loud in 1st/Rev.. my brothers work truck is gettin close to 300k and it sounds like a supercharger whine its so loud.

Its just Nature of the Beast.

Mine is quite loud at around 4k rpms.

 

Louder with rpm. Tranny is fresh. Hits every gear perfectly.. Runs good. Just concerned about the noise.
