After trying to sell the 80e i have, and failing at that. I have decided to finish gathering the parts to put it in my truck 4.8 or not.

Basically came down to 1 comment, you break 1 built 60e your already out double the money you have into your built 4l80e.

Im going to start with a rebuilt stock GM high stall converter and just enjoy the truck for what it is, anything will run faster then me having to shift it.

I love these threads, everyone else says the pros and cons so i dont have to think

Only thing I hated about the 80e was its sluggishness off the line but I was running a low compression big headed 420...

The shifts were awesome, I loved them. If I break this 60e, Ill get another 80e and do the swap all over again but this time Ill go with a decent stall in it.

Yeah stock since I had a turbo kit laying on the floor ready to go on after I broke the motor in but it started drinking oil and came back out so I never got a chance to really play with it all.

That was your problem right there then. Silver-mod-o is hating his stock stalled 80 behind the 4.8. Although the thing didn't feel weak at all riding around in.

WIth a 4wd truck and turbo you can brake stall a stock 80e stall to over 3K so it wouldve been fine for what I wanted to do. I think Id still have to go with an aftermarket stall since it would shoot up to the stall speed right away without having to brake boost it at all.

Yeah but that stock stall weighs around 30lbs more than my Yank and it also doesn't have as much torque multiplication.

If the motor wouldnt have been burning oil that combo wouldve been 800+rwhp maxed out, I doubt the difference in weight of the converter wouldve mattered much. Plus I would have an extra grand in my pocket. If I switch to an 80e again Ill go with a cricle d.

I guess my little 4.8 does OK... pulled about 6500lbs with it and its done fine except the damn pinion vibe from being lowered LOL. I know it'll outrun a stock RCSB 5.3 truck That's all the wifey will need for her DD and my tow/trip vehicle. The RCSS will be the playtoy

Like I said, the 80E has its place. Just not in any of my trucks...
