i went through this same delima a few months ago when ben was having trouble with his 80 and i popped my 60. I looked at both sides and basically wrote the pros and cons of each on a page and weighed my options. first for me was money at the time, yes a good 60 is great when done right but you are going to pay for it, when a stock 80 will handle the same power and be relatively relaible. Then if something happens to the trans, a stock 80 can be worked on where a flt, performabuilt or any other will need to be sent back. Now the 60 when built correct is the way to go....its lighter the ratio is better and more converter/cheaper converter choices out there. You can make good power and save the weight to bump that e/t.

After all was said and done, i knew my truck would be my daily driver and that it would see some track time but mostly street and daily driving. So in my case the 4k dollar built 60 was out of the question. I swapped the 80 and have about 1200 in it and I love it. Still miss the 60 with the yank 3k stall though cause it was snappy but it just wouldn't hold up.

I agree with ben that a 60 is great up to a certain hp but a stock 60 is good for a junkyard. I would guess im close to 500hp and the 80 is serving well. I know there is a huge debate on this and I don't want a part I am just giving my opinion on why i made my choice!

I hated pulling the transmission out ever few thousand miles to fix stuff, finally at #17 i traded an AR15 and a XD .40 for a 80E that came from Lilreddevil.
I wasnt scared to tow with it or scared to break it.

#18 was a FLT Lvl 4, Circle D stall that was wayy too loose.
#19 was a Yank SC3000 thats still way too loose and sucks gas
#20 will be the stock converter and ill be done with all that crap.

Ive grown to hate turning wrenches, it took me almost a week to swap the 76mm turbo for a 67mm. Id get under the truck and something wouldnt go right so id just quit and leave it for later.
Whats even worse is ive given up on goin fast. Dont care to do anything with either of the trucks. havent touched the S10 in almost 2 months. But it has my old stock 80E in it

Guns are alot more fun and i use my patience there. So long....

I completely agree with everything you said.

Also, just driving this thing around more I love this Yank stall. It's really not loose at all. I was wrong in saying it takes 2500 to go with traffic. It's more like 2000. And the second you get on the gas a lil bit it shoots right up to 3000. Now I'd say even a 4000 stall 258mm stall would be perfectly daily drivable in an 80.

Forgot to mention....I also cut the wrong tranny cooler line on the 60! lol. Fortunately the suburban 80e cooler line I bought still worked just fine. It wouldn't work if I had a clutch fan though.

Why didn't you install a shift kit before you installed it?

12s has been my goal all along. Basically need to drop 1 second with the addition of cam, 80e and stall.

Actually, I do gotta hit the gym. But that isn't the point.

I was curious bout that 2k leave.

Corey, I too wondered why he didn't install a shift kit before install, but think he had to get back home. Right Mike?

God damn! Just took it to give the truck a wash and give it the first WOT runs. It pulls a LOT harder than it ever did with the 60e/stock stall. That tall first gear everyone complains about is completed negated by the stall IMO. Roasting the tires is NOT a problem The shifts in the 80e at WOT are incredibly more precise than the 60. Very positive and not sloppy like the 60 at all.

Regarding the stall, I'd say people are spot on the money when they say go no lower than 3600. This stall is just about perfect for what I was wanting, but if you could sacrifice a tiny bit of looseness on low end part throttle, I think the 4000 stall is the way to go. Yank rocks.
