Default 5 speed on the 4.8/5.3 1500 sierra/silvy

hey im planning to get a 1999-2006 1500 sierra or silverado 4x4 im looking for a stick shift one i just wanted to ask what kind of transmission are on the 4x4's? according to my research they use a nv4500 but im not sure and is it possible to bolt a t56 and keep the 4x4 without alot of customisation? im planning to swap the stock motor for a lightly modified lq4 or lq9 the truck is gonna be my daily driver, quad towing and for desert driving

thanks

It's still the NV3500 but who cares? It's a great transmission. I'm running 400 RWTQ through mine without issues.

The 6L went in as easy as the 4.8L came out. Nothing special. My 6L shifts plenty fast other than the 2-3 as dusty mentioned.

1500s all had NV3500s. (OBS could've special-ordered the NV4500, but not NBS, that i know of). for a 4x4 T-56, you'll need to custom-fab a whole tailhousing & tailshaft or run a divorced t-case.

yours is 01+, so you should be able to do the drill mod to fix that

i know you'll probably need to add a jumper from F10 to F11 in the black fuse block for the clutch switch
