4x4 transfer case functionality

So I have a 2000 ecsb z71 with a completely toasted rear gear (NO Teeth left to grab). I figured putting it in 4 wheel would allow the vehicle to still drive but apparently it doesn't work like that??
If I jack the front up and put it in 4 wheel the front spins just fine. However as soon as I put it on the ground it will only barely try to move.
Is the front and rear split That much different? I find it hard to believe that the front won't pull the truck.
Any ideas or input on why it won't move?
BTW the rear driveshaft spins the entire time since there is no rear so i know it's going into gear. No trans fluid burnt smell you normally get but now that I type this I realize I haven't checked the fluid.

Is it possible the front actuator isn't Fully engaging or what? Would that cause said functions?

Yeah I saw the pics of your rear diff, just double checking. when it is engaged in 4wd on the ground and load on it if the front driveshaft doesnt turn there are issues inside the t/case.

Those weren't my pics. I haven't posted any. but I imagine this looking worse.
It's push button. Lights indicate that it is fully engaging. Putting it in 4wd before putting in gear otherwise it won't engage.
In 2wd I can turn the front shaft by hand in 4wd I can not. Gonna check the fluid level tomorrow and possibly just change out the entire transmission and xfer case out of a wrecked truck.

Ok, sorry about that I thought those were yours...
You pulled the rear cover off right?
The rear diff can still lock up without any teeth on the ring and pinion. If there are any chunks in there they can bind up in the case and cause it not to move.

The rear diff isn't in question. It's toast. I want to know why it won't move when in 4wd using only the front diff. This way I can diagnose any 4x4 issues prior to swapping out rearends. I have a complete other truck for parts I just gotta find out what I need off of it.
Re-read what you said and understand what you mean. You can push the truck just fine. I pulled it home with a tow rope.

I guess one thing I need to do is get some power going to the fuel pump on the parts truck and see if It will move in 4wheel or not since it don't have a rear driveshaft in it.
The truck i'm working on has almost 300k on it and the parts truck has 170k. Plan to swap engine and trans from wrecked truck into higher mileage truck but I really don't want to do that until it warms up unless I absolutely have to.
