4L80e PI converter pump spring mod
#1
I have a 4L80e out of an 06 silverado with 3K miles on it. I have the HD2 shift kit and pi triple disk stall ready to go in but I am wondering about the little spring for the pump that usually comes with the converter from PI.
I bought the converter used and it didn't come with the spring. Is this spring necessary? If so where can i pick one up? I plan to eliminate the pwm if that matters.

When i spoke to PI yesterday they said that it is not absolutely necessary but I wanted to get some insight from the guys on the forum. They did say that it keeps the pressure up in the converter.

The spring is for the Converter Limit Valve. It raises the pressure sent to the converter be it locked or unlocked pressure. The OE spring sets the pressure to about 100PSI. Adding the spring probably raises it to about 125-150. On a billet converter this is ok, it will take the extra pressure and not balloon, not a good idea on a stock 13" converter.
