Default 4l80e neutral safety switch mounting

Well i just got a call from bowtie overdrives and they told me that the 4l80e i ordered from them was built and then they got a call from someone else doing a 4l60e-4l80e swap and was told the neutral safety switch wouldn't mount to the 4l80e they were sent. They wanted to swap all the parts to a different case but i told them i really needed it right away so i would find a way to mount it, like make a bracket or something. I was unaware that there were different cases made for the 4l80e.

Has anyone else ran into a problem like this, and if so what did you do to make it work?

I don't care much what it looks like, as long as it drives. The 6.0 swap has been finished for almost 2 months and so has the 4l80e swap, but i've gotten 2 bad trannies from the salvage yard so its been off the road for what seems like forever.

I'll crawl under the truck tonight and see what i can do to fab up a bracket for it. I guess i could just tack weld it to the case, lol

Do you still have the two junk 80es? Maybe a trans shop could swap cases for you...

no, they have both been returned to the salvage yards they came from. I made some brackets for it today to use two of the pan bolts to hold it in place.

It sounds like they built you an early unit. I would ask them if they intalled the long linkage for you. You will probably have to do a little work with the cooler lines if you are using steel lines. Is your motor ls1 based? If so you will probably loose one of the bolt holes in the bell when bolting it up.

I'd let them swap cases,I tried a early 4L80E for a while and it never was right. You don't want to zip tie the nuetral switch into place and it sure would be nice to be able to shift the tranny into 1st gear with the gear selector.Do youself a big favor and opt for the late model case.

Im not using all steel lines for the trans cooler so thats not an issue, and the switch will be firmly mounted using my brackets i made. As long as i don't run into any major issues im not going to worry about swapping the case.
