Default 4l80e bottom cover problems

So last night at the track truck made a horrible noise and seemed like converter was toast. jacked up the truck and cover was hanging by one bolt halfway in. New trans was installed last week and we made sure all bolts were tight cause this has happend before. Do we need to put lock tite, lock washers, or leave the MF off? Had it come loose it could have screwed something up or punctured a slick.

on a truck like yours, I'd just leave that thing off.... I never had one on mine and for well over a year, never had an issue. I can see on super low street trucks that are driven in weather a lot and are suceptable to picking paper or whatever up off the road to have it but other than that I wouldnt worry with it.

If your **** is really on the ground my only worry would be sucking a damn grocery sack up in the bellhousing and killing the seal etc... other than that, run that hoe

I'm not planning on running one in my truck with a 4/6 drop. You'll be fine.

I was thinking the same thing. You may luck out without running a cover, but some lock washers or maybe some blue loctite is only a few bucks.

I havent run one since i did the 80 swap. Mainly cause i couldnt find all the bolts

Alot of off roading and mud later, the seal is leaking. So gotta fix that one day. Dont think you will have to worry bout gettin your 10 second truck in mud half way up the tires haha
