Default 4l80 is in. Looking for advice on 4.10's

Well the 4l80 is in and first gear is definitely slower out of the hole. To get more umph in first im looking at swapping the rear to 4.10s. Can anyone suggest a brand and advise whether on a 4X4 it is only a matter of a gearing change. Please help as I need more information.

thanks

GM (OEM) 4.10's all the way man. There a little more expensive than the Yukons, Motives, Richmonds, etc but well worth the investment IMO. They will be your best bet for strength & quiet operation.

Being that is 4wd you'll have the G80 from the factory, so you should only be looking at a gear swap.

I think the 4:10s are definitely slated for this weekend. The 3.73 are too hard to drive with the 4L80. Anyone else.

I would either use GM or Motive 4.10 gears. I've heard good things about both (quiet and strong). I'm actually considering 4.10's myself.

I am kind of in the same boat, just bought an 06 cc, has 3:23's in it and waiting on the tires to come in to mount on the 22's, it is kind of gutless right now, will be even worse with the big wheels and tires, and thinking of putting in 4:10's, I have had good luck with motive gears in my f-body's, just wondering where everyone buys their truck stuff from, and also a guesstimate on how much difference rpm wise it will change with the gear swap, tire size is 285/35/22.

Just cuz its 4wd doesn't mean it will have a G80. Mine doesn't.

Well, I have 285/60/18's and I just ordered 4.56:1 gears. If you are traveling 80mph with a 285 tire, your rpm will be in the 2730 range with a 4L60E. I have read that going up(in numbers) in 1 gear ratio, you won't feel a huge difference. Guys on here say go up 2 gear ratio's(3.73:1 to a 4.56:1 or 3.23:1 to a 4.10:1). I don't know......I'm going to a 4.56:1 because the rpm is under 3k and I can handle this rpm. Just my two cents.

I test drove an 05 CC with 3.23 then drove the truck I have now with 3.73 and there was a Huge difference. I've also been told that because the 80e is a stronger "bigger" trans that it will rob power when compared to a 60e. I've also heard that about going from a 10bolt rear to a 12 bolt rear. If this is true this could also add the slow out of the whole issue do to trans gear ratios.

A local 4x4 shop recommends using GM (OEM) Gears as a first choice, Motive second choice, yukon third choice. They only use Richmond gears in Off-Road only applications where you generally won't hear the noise they make.

Hopefully you can read the attached table. Upsizing the gears to 4.11s combined with the 4l80 will mean that the 2nd gear ratio will be identical to the 4L60 with 3.73 with a final drive ratio of 6.08. The first gear drive ratio will be a little closer but still different by 10%. I would like to hear feedback from people who have increased gear ratios on after a 4l80 swap. anyone?
