I feel like I'm missing something between the center support and the direct clutch drum maybe it's spaced just enough to not touch but I want to double check

There is no thrust washer between the center support and direct clutch/sprag assembly. Should be nothing there.

The direct clutch assembly seats against the sun gear shaft which carries rearward thrust loads to the sun gear, then through a torrington needle bearing, then the rear ring gear, then another needle bearing, then the output shaft, and finally through a thrust washer and selective washer to the case. If you need additional clearance between the center support and direct clutch it could mean that there is a missing component behind the center support.

A flipped sun gear for the sungear shaft or a missing bearing race or shim in the rear rotating assembly can cause an issue in this area.
