Default 4l65 upgrades

I just got a 4l65 to go in my 84 C10 and am going to do some upgrades on it before I put it in. I am going to install a transgo shift kit, vette servo and overdrive servo. When I did my 4l60, I also changed out the separator plate and accumulator piston. Does the 4l65 need these also and do I need to add anything else?

Can anybody answer this? Does the 65e need the same basic upgrades as the 60e? Anything else that I should add?

Same basic upgrades. Sounds like you have the right plan. TG kit, separater plate, 2nd and 4th servo, replace the plastic accum pistons.

Its Basically the same transmission only a few parts changed. The front and rear plantery changed from a 4 pinion to a 5 pinion. They are also Heat treated. The aftermarket 5 pinion planetaries are weak and should never be used. I believe Gm also revised the Sun Drum in the 4L65E but its still not as good as the Beast Sun Shell from what I understand.

All the Upgrades available for the 4L60E should also work in the 4L65E. I am not a transmission guy so I don't know all the specifics. Any specific questions should probally be direct to one of our highly capable Transmission Specialest Sponser's. They have years of Experince and they work on these daily so they know what does and does not work.

This is what I would do if I where you.

Transgo hd-2 kit
Aluminum forward accumulator piston
Aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston
Transgo seperator plate
Corvette 2nd gear servo
Sonnax Billet 4th gear servo
New filter and pan gasket
And a good trans cooler!!!

Thats about all you can do without pulling it out and tearing into it.

they are pratically the same as a 60E and about the sun shell they went to a bearing type which holds up much better, but it can still be updated as long as you pull it out of the car and build it.

The trans should be in good shape. It only has 30,000 miles and had a cooler on it the whole time with fluid changed and flushed . I don't plan on going inside it other than the pan. I just wanted to get all the parts I need to help it last as long as possible.

I get them from Transtar in Dallas. They have everything in stock. I can order them for you if you would like.

IMHO after 5 60's, the best performance upgrade for a 4l60 series tranny is to replace it with an 80.
