Default 4l60e slipping in second

Noticed some funny stuff last week and on the way home this morning second is definitely slipping. This trans has roughly 20,000 miles on it and am going to baby it until I can afford a 6l80e or 4l80. Truck is a 2008 5.3 crew cab 2wd with a BTR truck2 cam, TSP headers and tune. I’m tired of the 60e and wanting a longer relationship with this tranny. ;-)

what do you fine folk recommend?
I’m in Pensacola Fl

4l80 swap may be easier with less parts changouts.

Here is a good thread on 6L80E swap into early GMT900... https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...e-swap-472501/

An 80e swap isn’t that much. Much cheaper than rebuilding the 60e over and over again.

If you pull it out, put an 80e in it.

Now, someone’s gonna come through this thread and state the 60e is fine if built right.

Take it from someone who spent almost $5k on a reputable builders level7 to only have it fail.

Yes, yes, and yes. I blew through 2 "built" 60e trannys before I dropped the 80e in...never looked back and I beat the **** out of this thing.

I vote for the 80e as well, but since you have a crew-cab and if you do upgrade to the 80e throw some 4.10 gears in the rear end with a quality LSD.

drove it around some more and it feels fine driving around, even in 2nd. It slips only at WOT in second and hood find through 4 gear. I’m now thinking about putting a surecure kit from Sonnax in it and make sure the second/4th servo is adjusted right.

I still want to 4l80 swap it just not right now

I wasted thosands on 6 4L60`s before going to an 80 and ending the problem. Save up and start collecting the parts you need to convert so that when the 4L60 dies you will have most if not all the parts to do the swap.

I put a Sonnax 2nd and 4th servo plus the long pin in my truck today, the play was over 3/8” on the pin. I installed the new stuff and left all the length in the pin and things are holding on for now. time to piece a 4l80 together while I’m not in a rush
