4L60E Homebuilt
Since my stock trans is acting up, I'm going to get it fixed from the dealership (warranty) and just build up a different trans to swap into the truck. I'm picking up the core tomorrow that I found, got a good deal on it from craigslist.
For those of you who have experience with "built" transmissions, what parts have you used and liked? I'm looking at buying a HD performance rebuild kit that has Zpack clutches and other upgrade parts. I definitely want to look into a nice sun shell and possibly a 13 vane high volume pump.
Anyways, any comments, suggestions, and part numbers are much appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Jake

Yep... and buy an ATSG manual as well. They're on ebay. I got a 4L60E I'm gonna rebuild for fun and I'm gonna use Vince's 4L60E rebuild thread and an ATSG manual to get me through it. Shouldn't be too bad.

Ain't it the truth.
The master rebuild (HD) kit contains solid performance parts you'll find many pro builders use. Add the HD2 kit as well. Replace the forward sprag with a high performance sprag. Check the accumulator pistons to make sure there are no cracks on the bore. Replace the plastic piston with an aluminum one. Check the reverse input drum for grooves, and replace if noticeably grooved. That wears 2-4 bands out prematurely.
Additional mods would involve replacement of other parts such as shafts, sunshell, and lower planetary. The first paragraph covers what I would consider a minimum "homebuild" requirement. Some people love the 46-mod (vacuum mod). I had it, but the shifts seemed a bit to firm unless you have a pressure regulator of some sort. I only reverted from using it b/v I changed trans cases, and couldn't get the valve out of the old case. I like the electronic control better anyhow. Shifts aren't annoying as before.
The parts I've mentioned can be found at FLT (sponsor). Vince's rebuild thread is VERY informative. An ATSG manual will definitely help with disassembly & reassembly. Good learning tool. Good luck with the rebuild. Have fun with it. I did.

Thanks for the input man, I'm really excited about getting this project under way. I plan on doin the rebuild kit and the HD2 for sure, maybe a few hardware mods as well. I've got a brand new case on the way so that'll help with any issues involving the casing. I already bought the ATSG manual too so I've got most of it covered besides the actual rebuild kit and hardened parts. Picked up a core for 150

Brand new 4L65E center case. Just want to make sure that I don't have any issues with the core case I have right now.
