4L60E build tips/tricks, parts list
#1
I would like to post up my 4l60E build list I have been running in mt Nitrous 1988 Dodge Ram 400+ rwhp running high 12's
This transmission has been getting a workout since the 3600 stall was installed in late 2010..I daily drive this truck so its very important to get a build to hold, last and be streetable
First of Thanks to Dave at YANK converters for talking me into the SSTB3600, I have driven this converter nearly everyday and have towed 5,500lbs with the 3.90 gears to match
While towing with this converter is NOT recommended I have done it several times..I programmed my computer to lockup the converter in 3rd at 30 mph and hold it in the "3" position...at speeds 30-55 this works fine...At speeds above 55 mph its in lockup 4th gear and pulls the load, This might not be acceptable in a smaller cubed motor such as a 4.8 5.3 with a cam. My 1998 LS1 is internally stock with bolt-ons only and has great lowend tq

Computer tuning Is KEY, With this setup I have my requested shift times at .15 for the 1-2 shift .12 for the 2-3 and .15 for the 3-4, all trans pressures are left stock in the tables.
Lockup in 4th comes in at 40 mph and out at 36 mph..In manual "3rd" lockup comes in at 31mph, this is the only reason I can tow with this large of converter without damage

IMO, this build is very good for 400-450 rwhp in a truck.....anything more and I would highly recommend billet output and OEM GM 5 pinion front and rear planetaries...STAY AWAY FROM CHEAP 5 pinions
