I also found a 4l80 trans out of a 99 chevy but it is a classic body style with a 5.7. Will this trans bolt up to my engine?

Yes, it will. All 4L80-E transmissions use the classic sbc-bbc bell pattern and converter spacing spaces.
In 97 the case changed to the present design. This design includes the top center mounting hole in the bell flange. As long as the cooler return is in the back half of the case it will work fine. 91-93 units use different pressure control solenoids and have torque signal compensation circuitry in the hydraulics. These are incompatible with present PCMs. 91-96 units have both cooler fittings in the front and use a different type of linkage to the manual selector. 1997 is the minimum year worth messing with but in 1999 the two rear planetary gearsets got a 10% increase in width and power handling. 1999 and 2001 were both good years for 4L80-E design upgrades. (2001 got a new overdrive roller clutch)

hmmm, my trans has both oil cooler lines up front, and I don't think it had a top bolt hole........

I have a ART CARR 4l80e stall with the 5.3 bolt padern for sell.

Could this be part of my for ever long TCC lock up problems?? Or can the "Guts" from a newwer one fit in the old case .... BTW it's "built" which means I payied for a lot of parts and I have no clue what they are. I'm not bitching, It hasn't broke. And I beat it EVERY DAY.

Uhh.. could have done withOUT knowing that.

The case type doesn't have anything to do with the converter lockup that I can think of. I'm not saying there's not a problem, just that the year is not the source of it.
